The newly released Photoshop filter Permanent Press by Mister Retro is perhaps one of the most exciting plug-ins to me. First of all, I like vintage prints especially solid ink coasters with a nice looking design. Secondly, I’ve always wondered what my comic strip would look like if it were printed on newspaper. With this plug-in, I can create different vintage look for my comic strips.

One warning though: if your original comic strip is prepared in very low-resolution (the typical 72 dpi), any of the many filters you apply to your strip will turn it into a non-desirable mess. I create my comic strip in Illustrator, and I can export my strip at 300 dpi, a size big enough to really let the plug-in shine.

The second warning: Unless you want a CMYK dotted print look, all the filters in that plug-in will convert your graphic to spot colors of up to a maximum of 10 colors. In the beginning I was very disappointed, but now I think about it, one of the charms of vintage prints is spot colors.
